According to AfricaNews while former president and dictator Jammeh seeks to return home, Gambian governement have banned protest and silenced media after violent protests against spontaneous groups of citizens that has been mobilising the populace to demand departure of President Adama Barrow after the president supposed to leave the power after three years decided to remain in power for five.

Tensions in gambian society are increasing for weeks now and the last sunday Police in the capital Banjul fired tear gas at hundreds of protesters, who responded by throwing stones and setting tyres on fire, according to an AFP correspondent witnesses. Adama Barrow said in return “No one can force me to leave the presidency before 2021” and 137 people have been arrested by the Police during sunday’s demonstration.

For president’s spokesman Ebrima Sankareh the group was a “subversive, violent and illegal movement” that was “determined to illegally overthrow the constitutionally elected president”.
