The jihadist rebels who attacked Bashr al-Assad’s regime, shaking up the entire region, have declared that the fall of the regime is in sight right after they reached the gates of Damascus. In the meantime, al-Assad has disappeared: he is nowhere where he should be, Syrian officials have declared; according to some of them even the guards of the presidential palace have left their posts. The president claims to be in Syria, but everyone believes that he has left the country.

The Iranian Foreign Minister, on the sidelines of the events, declared that the state of insecurity in Syria is a problem for the entire region and that his regime will make “every effort possible”; according to Al Jazeera citing IRNA agency, Iran authorities will work “to ensure security and fight terrorists in Syria”.

US Says Time to Negotiate End of Conflict

The US State Department said Washington was monitoring the situation in Syria and that it was time to “negotiate an end to the conflict,” adding that Assad’s continued refusal to negotiate an end to the conflict in Syria is the very cause of the current situation.

Opposition leader Hassan Abdul Ghany, meanwhile, gave a brief statement to the media that left little room for doubt: “We promise the criminal regime that there will be surprises in the heart of Damascus.” He did not provide further details.
