After almost 20 years of leadership Angela Merkel resigned and left the place to the youngest Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer, 56, now new leader of the german conservative party. Kramp-Karrenbauer narrowly defeated one-time Merkel rival Friedrich Merz to become the Christian Democratic Union’s new chairwoman.
Kramp-Karrenbauer started the news commitment claryfing she would not be a Merkel clone.
